How to Unlock LG Vu CU920

June 11th, 2008 by Eric

LG Vu CU920On the AT&T Network, to unlock the LG Vu or CU920, it’s pretty simple:

  • Put a AT&T or Cingular SIM in the phone; it does not have to be an active SIM
  • Enter *#865625# then the 16 digit unlock code*
  • Device should say: Network Lock Deactivated
  • Phone may automatically reboot

*The 16 digit code can be obtained by calling AT&T Technical Support and given the representative the IMEI number. In exchange they will give you the Subsidy Unlock Code.

would at&t just give you the code, just like that ? wouldnt they try not to give it out?

  • 2 Eric Jun 16, 2008 at 8.24

You need to fall into one of two categories:

    1. You paid full price for your phone. They are obligated to provide you the Subsidy unlock code if you pay full price.

    2. You have been an AT&T customer for at least 6 months. If you upgrade to the Vu from a previous phone, you might still be able to get the unlock code.

Please read the instructions above to obtain the “subsidy unlock code.” You will need to contact AT&T customer support and provide and IMEI number in order to generate a code. Once you have done, that follow the instructions above.

Here is some configuration information about setting up T-Mobile Web Settings:

    Source: T-Mobile Support

t-zones® and T-MobileWeb Settings For Non-T-Mobile Branded Phones

T-Mobile Customer Care provides minimal support for phones not sold by T-Mobile USA. The following settings are provided for configuring non-T-Mobile branded mobile phones for use with the t-zones and T-MobileWeb data services. Not all links and features provided within T-MobileWeb will be compatible with non-T-Mobile branded phones.

T-Mobile provides an over-the-air wireless configurator that allows you to easily configure the most popular phones for use with t-zones. To begin setting up your phone, access the Wireless Configurator.

If you are unable to use the Wireless Configurator to configure your phone, you may type the settings manually using the information provided below. These settings are specific to T-Mobile USA and will only work with an active T-Mobile USA account.

if i unlock this phone, will it work on verizon network

  • 11 Eric Jun 25, 2008 at 12.29

No, this device will only work on GSM-based networks (T-Mobile and AT&T in the United States).

Verizon uses CDMA technology which is incompatible with with the LG Vu CU920 or CU915.

If i unlock this phone can i turn it into suncom which uses a sim card

  • 13 Eric Jul 6, 2008 at 22.05

    Bryson,

Yes, Suncom is a GSM carrier. If the LG Vu CU920 is unlocked, it will work on the Suncom network. For the data settings, you may have to call Suncom customer support in order to configure the device to access the web, email and other data services.

Just FYI, I actually work for AT&T mobility. They will NOT Just give you the subsidy unlock code. You 1.) have to be a cust with them for at least 6 months (as previously stated) and 2) the only way they will give it to you is if you tell them that you need to unlock your phone for “international travel”.. again, just FYI.

  • 15 Eric Jul 7, 2008 at 19.59

Actually, if you purchase the device at full retail (off-contract) AT&T *will* give you the Subsidy Unlock Code. You might need to show a proof of payment (receipt), but the code will be given.

I got the phone unlocked for T-mobile. but now am unable to send or receive picture messages. Any advice?

  • 17 Eric Jul 23, 2008 at 17.39

Unlocking the device means you need to configure it for another mobile operator. Data services do not auto-configure, thus your problem with MMS.

Try this link to see if it resolves your problem:

yo i got the vu “cu 920″ how do i un lock the tv so ican get it for free ppplz help me

  • 19 Eric Jul 29, 2008 at 6.56

    Chris,

I actually spoke to an ATT rep about this yesterday. In the US, there are actually two models of LG Vu being sold. The CU915 is the Vu *without* TV service. The CU920 is the Vu *with* TV service. Currently the CU915 model is being sold in markets where TV service is not available. The CU920 is being sold in markets where the TV service *is* available.

You might want to call Customer Care and ask them which markets TV service is available.

  • 22 Berry Aug 7, 2008 at 9.00

I put in my old Cingular SIM card and it opened the phone. Now I can’t figure out where to enter the code *#865625#. Advice? Thanks in advance.

  • 23 harman Aug 8, 2008 at 15.39

can this anyhow mess up the phone.please reply

  • 24 Eric Aug 9, 2008 at 21.33

    Berry,

You need to use the dialpad menu (as if you were trying to dial a phone number) in order to put in the sequence to unlock the phone.

  • 25 Eric Aug 9, 2008 at 21.34

    Harman,

I’m not sure I understand what you mean by “mess up the phone.” Can you clarify?

  • 26 alex Aug 10, 2008 at 5.23

hi, trying to unlock a LG VU CU920 and I already got an unlocking code, the only thing is that for some reason you can’t press more than 3 digits on the keypad since all you can do is emergency calls. Anyone knows how I can get it unlocked? Or how i can do more than 3 digits on the keypad… thanks!

  • 27 harman Aug 10, 2008 at 10.12

    eric
can this buick the phone or make it slow.please reply

  • 28 Dalton Aug 10, 2008 at 14.09

if i buy a prepaid cingular phone and buy the lg vu seperately at full retail price, could i just switch the sim card from the prepaid? do you really have to be an at&t customer for six months to activate the lg vu?

  • 29 Eric Aug 10, 2008 at 19.52

    Alex,

In order to go through the sequence, you must use a Cingular or AT&T SIM. I believe it will not work if you do not put a SIM card in the device.

  • 30 Eric Aug 10, 2008 at 19.53

    Harman,

Unlocking the phone is a way of allowing the device to be used with any carrier. It will not slow down the device, nor will it do any other kind of damage.

  • 31 Eric Aug 10, 2008 at 19.55

    Dalton,

If you purchase the device at full retail price, you can call AT&T Customer Support and they can give you the unlock code. If you are planning on using a pre-paid AT&T card, switching SIM cards does not require an unlock code to use the device.
