The 2010 US Open Golf Championship at Pebble Beach will always be a great spectator event. The sites and sounds, it’s definitely a spectacle to attend. But as everyone is trying to figure out ways to enhance the experience, the US Open built both an iPhone application and a mobile website. The iPhone application is pretty well done with lots of links to learn more about the Players, the course, even some video clips.

I’m not sure this will really boost top line sales. What I think will happen is an increase in “Musical Chairs” Game for a seat to plop down and connect to the WiFi signal. For those Starbucks with parking lots, the spaces closest to the store will become a premium so that people can work in their car. And last, Starbucks should not invest in more power outlets for the store as this will perpetuate customers hanging out in longer in the stores.
