Sometimes, in a vain attempt you assume that all this blogging software is supposed to be easy. For the most part it is. But the more you get into blogging you start to tweak your site, adapt to the trends and optimize to meet customer demands. One such thing is to add Plugins. But that’s where the simplicity ends. For example, setting up a Cache plugin was simple at first, then I had to figure out which other plugins were compatible. And then all the versions of WordPress to update features, bugs, fixes galore, more checking. But then something broke. For the past two weeks, I have been getting Exceeded CPU Quota errors from my webhost. At first, I thought that was kind of a good thing, perhaps some post is driving traffic. But after more investigation, it was because wp-cache was not working. Even with flushing the cache, resetting and reinstalling it, didn’t help. And then Feedburner told me that I had to convert my feed over to Google. OK. Simple enough, just follow the instructions and break my blog some more.
So spiking traffic, which more and more people cannot read. All those who are using an RSS reader cannot read my blog. This was evident by the large drop in traffic towards the end of February. But still must blog more. Can’t give up. Will fix the bugs in time. And some things did. Traffic returned. Twitterfeed and RSS were still broken. But just yesterday, it all seemed to be working again. Feedburner has been disabled, but that’s ok; people can still access my feed.
In all of this, I guess you learn that blogging is easy, until you start being a little bit successful with traffic and catering to your audience by adding Plugins to increase utility for the site. I think people who use Internet Explorer to view my blog still have some formatting issues that I have not been able to resolve, but everything looks great on Firefox, Chrome and Safari.
