Just a few weeks away until the Mobile Industry gathers in San Diego for the CTIA show. I do have some reservations about the event this year. After the vast space of Las Vegas, it seems like the show, industry and people are going to be shrunk down to the San Diego Convention Center. I still plan on attending as there is still much business to do, and it is still a great place to efficiently meet with as many people as possible.
As usual, I am hosting the “Unofficial CTIA Party List” on my blog here (http://www.mobileslate.com/ctia. But judging from the list of invites and parties listed, it seems as though the industry has cut back. A year ago at the 2008 CTIA held in San Francisco, there were about 28 Events. So far (at time of writing) I count 9.
My thoughts: Not only is San Diego a smaller venue, but it also the locale has a smaller population of the mobile ecosystem. With a smaller set of local mobile companies, it’s only left to the larger, more established and public companies that will host events. Let’s hope it’s still a great time, seeing old friends and making new ones.
