  1. when i open sim card i dont have the peronalization category just the ID and phone number category. what should i do?

  2. todd: Have you tried Step 6 on the post? The Personalization Menu should after typing: MEPPD

  3. Shawn May 18, 2009

I bought this phone from ebay and when i go to enter the MEPPD code, it stays on the same screen. the only thing i see on the screen is the ID and the phone number is listed as unknown number. I have disabled all connections. I purchased an unlock code online but i cannot get to the point of trying them out. I want to get this phone working on my ATT account.

Should i be putting the ATT SIM card in there or the blank TMobile card? The TMobile card was brand new and was never used.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  4. Shawn: Hmmm, try mepd instead of two ‘p’ letters.

  5. Shawn May 18, 2009

I got it working but i had to use a low case mepd instead of MEPPD. the second set was mep2 rather than MEPP2. just an fyi in case someone else has the issue.

Also, i used thephoneunlockers.com to do it and it worked like a charm.

  6. Shawn: Great that it worked for you. I will update accordingly.

  7. thank you eric it worked but i have another problem, i cant get step 7 to work.

  8. Patrick May 23, 2009

I have a bb 8220 with contract with Rogers, but now my phone service is off because I owe money, I am wondering if I can just unlock my phone and switch it to “pay&talk” and still keep it with Rogers? Or can I switch to Telus or Bell or Virgin service, I am in Canada.

  9. todd: Are you stuck trying to get the device to show the “Enter Network MEP Code?” The directions of the right of the picture does not work?

  10. Patrick: I believe your version of the Blackberry 8220 only works with Rogers; Telus, Bell and Virgin Mobile all use a different radio technology that is not compatible. You might be able to just purchase a Pay&Talk plan with Rogers, switching out the SIM cards and still have a mobile plan.

if i use this unlock code will i be able to get free internet? but most importantly can i still use my phone to make calls?

  12. nathan: Using the Subsidy Unlock Code will not allow free Internet. It only allows you to use any mobile operator that uses the same radio technology.

  13. Hey Eric,

These instructions were fantastic and worked perfectly with my code but how do I changed the factory internet settings. I have calling and text messaging but I can’t send pictures which I was told has to do with your blackberry internet connections. I need to change from the default T-mobile internet connections to the system that AT&T uses?

  14. Luke: Contact your Mobile Operator’s Technical Support Department for the Internet Settings to use picture messaging, email and the web.

  15. I just purchased an unlock code on ebay from Seller: unlockg ( 5 ) TMOBILE UNLOCK CODE For BLACKBERRY PEARL 8100 8120 8220 – [ View item summary ] for $2.80. Got the code emailed to me in about 5 minutes and it worked instantly!

  16. cathy: Glad that it worked for you. But I must caution people to be wary of buying cheap unlock codes from eBay. Make sure they are reputable!

  17. Hi Eric. Re. “cheap ebay unlock codes” (Cathy’s comment): Do you know of any risks other than not getting a valid unlock code?

  18. Teri: You are revealing your IMEI number that could be targeted. This is a hard problem to hack, but it is possible to hack your phone, knowing the IMEI number.

Hi Eric I just unlocked my BB flip and I tried putting my sisters boost mobile sim in my BB but all I get it the SOS signal. What can I do?

  20. mobileslate August 1, 2009

josue2282: Boost Mobile is not compatible with this model of Blackberry. Even though they have a SIM card, the radio technologies are incompatible.

  23. mobileslate November 15, 2009

nujrem22: You might need to put a SIM card in the device. Also, make sure that you put the SIM card in the right direction.

  24. mobileslate November 15, 2009

sexlily: There is no universal subsidy unlock code, each phone has a unique number.

  25. mobileslate November 18, 2009

rrod: No the SIM card does not need to be active.
