How To Unlock Google G1 Phone

Google G1 Phone

After purchasing the Google G1 phone from Best Buy, one of the questions asked is, How Do You Unlock It? There are two methods that I have tried that worked.

The first is the call T-Mobile Customer Care and request the Subsidy Unlock Code. You will need to provide the IMEI number for your device. The IMEI can be obtained by pressing #*06#

The second is to use www.unlock-tmobileg1.com. This costs $23.99 USD and you can use PayPal. You will need to provide the IMEI number for your device. The IMEI can be obtained by pressing #*06# This is one of the first online websites that I have tried for Subsidy Unlock codes. I was quite impressed; from the time I submitted by order to receiving the unlock code too approximately 40 minutes.

Once you get the unlock code (an 8 digit number), here are the instructions:

  • Insert the NON T-Mobile SimCard
  • Turn ON the device and type the PIN code of the NON-ACCEPTED SimCard
  • Device should then bring up ‘Phone Restricted’ message on the screen
  • You can now type the Unlock Code
  • Press Submit
  • You should get a message: Network Unlock Successful

Hi, I have a Rogers HTC Dream which I believe is the same as the Google G1. I recently bought an unlock code for it and the instructions that came with it said to put in a sim card from another network and then enter the code when it prompts you. Well so far, all that comes up on the screen is emergency calls only. Is there something else that I should be doing? because I have tried everything including reading these posts and nothing has worked so far. Any help would be appreciated.

blizzy2: Make sure you place the SIM card in the correct orientation. Otherwise, I'm not sure if I can suggest any other advice. These were the instructions given to me to unlock the device as shown in the video in the post.

when i turn on my phone it says emergency calls only can you help me unlock my fone and get pass that please
  • g1hlp: The instructions are posted here. If the device is saying "Emergency Calls only" this is because there is: A. No SIM card installed, B. A SIM card is installed but not T-Mobile or C. You are in a region where the SIM card is not roaming.

    Hi to all,
PLEASR NEED YOUR HELP ASAP! I was sucsessfull unlocking my phone with my att sim card, however I made the mistake to reset it to factory standards to erase all the previous data, etc.
When I turn it on again I get the android screen prompting me to sign in to my google account. I tried but can’t get in because I get this message “sim card has to be provisioned for data” (my att sim card is)
Do you know what can I do now?
    Thank you very much

I know, But thanks Eric, ive already done it all. I was letting the person who named themselves "E", that he prolly had to set up his APN settings. Once you unlock your phone, you need to then put the APN Settings in to sign into your Gmail account. here is the link for the settings E.

    Good luck.
  • Nick
E: Sounds like you need to set up the APN settings.
  • Nick: After the initialization, the the APN settings are needed to hook it all up.

  • E: Do you have the T-Mobile SIM card when you bought it? The easiest thing to do is to do the initial configuration with the T-Mobile SIM. After that, you can perform the Subsidy Unlock process, then switch to your AT&T SIM card.

Juan try selling it on Kijiji http://kijiji.ca if you are in Canada, or you can try http://usfreeads.com
or you can also try selling to the dealer one
    I know is at http://mobileunlockingcode.com

This is just out to everyone, I was wondering if there are any places people might know sell the G1 phone at an affordabe price. Other than Ebay though. Thanks!
  • Juan: eBay might be the best place. You could also try Craigslist.
  • Jenny
Yes Eric: http://unlockg1mobile.com is fast and reliable, and I got my friends g1 unlocked from them as well worked three times for me, also they gave me discount after I mention that I am a returning customer. got third unlock code for $17.99
  • ele
eric, what's the PIN code when you insert the non-accepted SIM card?
  • ele: This might be the PUK that is related to the SIM card. You can ask your mobile carrier to provide you with the PUK code. There should be no charge for that.
  • Juan
Yes. I'm looking for one to buy, but having a hard time looking for one at a reasonable low price unlocked, so I was thinking buying it origanlly then unlocking it. Would that be a good idea? I'm with AT&T.
  • Juan: Did you see my link on this post about the Unlocking Service? This is the one I have used a few times and each time the code has worked for the Google G1 phone.
  • Juan
Hi there, I am an AT&T customer, If I buy a phone from ebay with it being original with T-Mobile, can I still unlock it for AT&T by calling T-Mobile even if I'm not a customer of theirs? Is this even possible to do?
  • Juan: In this case, you might be better off looking for an Online Subsidy Unlock service. You will have to pay a small fee, but generally you can get the subsidy unlock code.

Are you trying to unlock a Google G1 phone?
  • Jenny
the fastest and easy way is to unlock it yourself by purchasing an unlock code online, it takes a minute to unlock it by inputting the code. So far the cheapest code available is for $19.99 at http://unlockg1mobile.com
  • Jenny: Thanks for the link. I hope they are as reliable as the site I mentioned.
  • Arnold
I try too many times with the wrong code then the phone now the phone say welcome to t-mobile there no place to put the code. can the be unlock or it's lock down
  • Arnold: Not sure if there is a fix. I think the device is permanently locked.
  • rodney
I have a G1 and Tmobile shipped me the to afghanistan. they just sent me the unlock code but the carrier in Afghanistan doesnt have a data plan so how do I bypass the Google log in screen
  • rodney: You might need to use a T-Mobile SIM card to get past the Google log in screen, if it's your first time using the device. After that you should be able to access the dial pad in order to enter the subsidy unlock sequence and code.
