  1. timmah: You can activate the phone by going to either an AT&T or T-Mobile store and signing up for a plan. If you want to use the device with T-Mobile, you will need to perform a Subsidy Unlock on your device. The instructions are posted here.

  2. So I am trying to unlock this Propel but when I call AT&T I give them my friends number and the account holder’s name (has an account with AT&T) But they ask me for the last four digits to the account holder’s social. My friend is skeptical about getting the social but I told him nothing will happen. Is there any way I can bypass this four digit thing?

Can I put games on it via USB cable if I unlock it? When I unlocked a Razr I was able to access the apps section.

  4. babylon: Might be possible. You might need some Motorola software to transfer the files to the phone via USB.

  5. Tony: Can you clarify? You are contacting AT&T, using your friend’s account, they ask to verify some information (last 4 digits of your social security number). Did you get to the point where you asked for a Subsidy Unlock Code? The Subsidy Unlock Code is not 4 digits for this device, it’s 8.

    Hi,
Thank you for being so helpful and providing information. I’m on the tmobile network. The propel works for everything except the instant messenger I want to be able to use the yahoo messenger. any ideas?

  7. chenoa: The IM program on your phone is probably configured to the AT&T network. It needs to be configured to the T-Mobile network. I’m not sure how to access the settings on that application to point it to T-Mobile settings.

  8. N Soto June 27, 2009

I want to know…… the 8 digit code can be request directly with the Samsung?

  9. N Soto: Typically, the manufacturer will defer to the mobile operator for the Subsidy Unlock Code. Alternatively, you can try and Online Subsidy Unlock Service.

  10. Hello,

I signed up a for a 2 year contract with ATT and got this propel free. I called ATT for the unlock code and they are refusing to give the unlock code.

When I called, they wanted to know the reason I need this phone unlocked. I mentioned that I am travelling internationally and need it unlocked. To this, they said that I will need to sign up for international roaming and I will be able to make calles from another country. They said that they have ti-ups with wireless carriers in other countries and I will get service in other countries

Anyone had the same problem? If anyone was succesful, what other reasons can I give them for getting the phone unlocked?

    Thanks

  11. Dave: I think they are trying to sell you extras, instead of solve your problem. I have found that AT&T Customer Support has uneven representatives and that you got one that might be “newer” on the job. I would suggest that you try again.

  12. Hi, I have a question not abouit unlocking my phone but I hope you can help. I have Gmail, Google Maps downloaded to my phone. Everytime I go to it to use the application, this thing will always pop up saying: OK to send information? Gmail will send personal data. This will require that use of airtime for which you may be charged. Continue? Then there is the option to choose: 1. This time. Ask me again next time. 2. Not this time. Ask me again next time. Its quite annoying, because I know it can charge me but I have unlimited media so i should be able to access it all I want. Is there anyway of getting rid of that? I've tried looking under settings to see if I can turn that off but its like nowhere to be found. I would greatly appreciate it if someone can help me with this. Thank You!

  13. mobileslate July 3, 2009

Lisa: There might be a setting either in the application menu settings or in the Device's Internet Settings Menu, for a “do not prompt” you every time the device need to access the Internet. Otherwise, it's an annoying thing that I have seen before.

  14. monica July 5, 2009

monica: Make sure you are asking for the correct item, a Subsidy Unlock Code. Also, make sure you follow the steps to perform the process correctly.

  16. can we use at&t samsung propel in tghe philippines? and if yes how do i unlock this phone for me to use it?thanks

Hi, i live in france and i have a samsung propel. I can't unlock it because i can't contact at&t technical support.
    somebody can help me?
    thanks

  18. mobileslate August 1, 2009

max_gs45: You can go online and try to find a subsidy unlock service. There will be a fee to get the unlock code, but it should work.

  19. mobileslate August 1, 2009

shane: The Samsung Propel SGH-A767 should work in the Philippines.

  20. bkthelegend August 4, 2009

I called at&t to get the unlock code for my propel. I was told that I have to add an international feature in order to get the unlock code. Since I've only had my phone two weeks I have to wait until Nov before I can get the unlock code. Can you PLEASE give me the unlock code?

  21. what is the difference between a subsidy unlock code and the regular unlock code you get from ebay? I got my unlock code from ebay and it still says “this phone is phone freeze”

  22. mobileslate August 5, 2009

ct_guy: Subsidy Unlock Code refers to unlocking the phone so that you can use it with any mobile operator, provided they use the same radio technology. Regular unlock, not sure what that means, but it can refer to either unlocking the phone so you can use it or it refers to using the SIM card.

  23. mobileslate August 5, 2009

bkthelegend: You do not need to add the International feature for your service plan. Just tell them that you need to travel outside the US and need the Subsidy Unlock Code.

Unforntuately, I cannot provide the subsidy unlock code for your phone, each phone has a unique code, there is not universal code.

  24. i called att got my unlock code unlocked it with sucess i put in my boost mobile sim card fired it up successfully the problem is i have no service reception bars on my service metter

  25. what type of unlocking can I do?? & will this work for a propel pro?? I want my phone unlocked simply so that I can use it as a modem for my laptop, is this going to suffice or do I need some other type of unlock?? Please help!

When i type in #06# I get nothing. How do I work it out?

  28. mobileslate November 15, 2009

Twiggmeister: *#06# will get you the IMEI number.

  29. mobileslate November 15, 2009

Can you tell me the steps you performed in the unlock sequence?

  30. mobileslate November 15, 2009

Kayla Still: I'm not sure if this device support Internet Tethering. You might want to check with AT&T or the Samsung website.

  31. mobileslate November 15, 2009

will29: The Samsung Propel will not work with Boost Mobile. They use different radio technologies that are incompatible.

  32. mobileslate November 17, 2009

stephenkaye: Not sure about this. As long as you can continue to use the device, you can probably ignore it.

  33. is it free to get the unlock code from your service provider or there will be a fee?

  34. mobileslate December 3, 2009

danny: depending on whom your service provider is, yes, it can be free to get the Subsidy Unlock Code.

  35. mobileslate December 4, 2009

danny: depending on whom your service provider is, yes, it can be free to get the Subsidy Unlock Code.

  36. vicki1235678 February 24, 2010

You can find the IMEI on the sticker under the battery

  37. mobileslate April 23, 2010

Yes, or you can press *#06#

  38. mobileslate April 23, 2010

    Yes.

  39. Jackie May 23, 2010

My mom found a propel and my cousin broke the sim card do you think i can still get the code after this? so it doesnt work with boost mobile?

  40. mobileslate May 24, 2010

Jackie: The phone will not work with Boost Mobile. if the SIM card is broken, you can still subsidy unlock the device.

  41. HI, I GET A SIM LOCK AND IT ASKS FOR SIM PASSWORD????? WHERE DO I GET THIS????

  42. mobileslate June 4, 2010

GM: The SIM Lock code is different than the subsidy unlock code. You can call Customer Service and ask for the SIM pin. For example, if the SIM card is from T-Mobile, call T-Mobile Customer Care and ask them for the SIM pin. It's free and they must give that code to you.

  43. mobileslate June 4, 2010

vicki1235678: Yes, that is also an option, but most people find it easier for: *#06# since you don't need to turn off the phone or take out the battery.

  44. Jackie June 16, 2010

Can you tell me what companies it does work with :) ? im not sure i really want att so can i know what it does work with? last question, when i call will they ask where i got the phone from since i found it?

  45. mobileslate June 17, 2010

Jackie: If you are in the United States, you have the choice to AT&T and T-Mobile. If you are looking at prepaid plans, there is also Simple Mobile.

  46. Unlocking the phone has made it easier to use and hack the garbage off of it. You usually have to call the carrier and tell them you are traveling and want to use a another sim card and they will give you the code no charge at all, do not use pay services that ask for your IMEI # becasue once you have this your phone is open to hacks and other exploits use the proces I outlined and you get the code free and the same day almost always, if your phone has been cloned and sent back to you by the company att&t usually then you have to wait a day for them to call a special sevrice number however you still don't give any phreaking sites your IMEI # best Sgt Matthew H Tartaglia SurviveAll.Net
