Small runs, low margins, but lots of money in your pocket. Not a bad business when you consider how cheap it is to make a mobile phone in China.

Lots of tech people talk about convergence related to other technologies integrated with a mobile phone. But this type of convergence is already happening! Real activities that you can do while using your mobile phone – like smoking!

Maybe we got this wrong too. It’s not about how many megapixels your camera phone is, it’s more about how many times zoom does your camera have!

Final Thoughts

If only the people who made these and several other ShanZhaiJi could focus on getting the software for the phone to do something equally useful, like maybe putting Android on them, then we might see these devices start to really multiply and expand beyond China. The $20 USD mobile phone might become a reality.
